Spring: In the Time of Queen Elizabeth I
Queen Elizabeth I's reign was well-known for artistic, literary, and musical achievements. The Master Singers begin with Benjamin Britten's
Choral Dances from "Gloriana", written in praise of Elizabeth I. The ensemble then moves on to the
Mass for Five Voices by William Byrd, Elizabeth's court composer. Finally, the Master Singers close the season with settings of Shakespeare texts by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Frank Martin, and Jaakko Mantyjarvi.
